Institutional traders don't trade randomly throughout the day. They operate in specific time windows โ€” and knowing these windows gives you a massive edge. This lesson covers session-based SMC strategies that exploit predictable institutional behavior at specific times.

Why Sessions Matter

Different trading sessions have different characteristics because different institutions are active. The London session has the most forex volume. The New York overlap (London + NY) has the highest volatility. The Asian session is typically quieter for forex but active for crypto. Trading the right strategy in the right session is critical.

The London Open Setup (2:00-5:00 AM EST)

The London open is the most predictable setup window for forex. The sequence: 1. During the Asian session (quiet), price consolidates in a range. 2. At London open, institutions enter and often sweep one side of the Asian range first (the "Judas Swing" โ€” a fake move). 3. After the sweep, price reverses and trends for the rest of the London session. Trade it: Mark the Asian session high and low. Wait for a sweep of one side at London open. Look for CHoCH + FVG on the 5M chart. Enter the FVG, stop beyond the sweep, target the opposing side of the Asian range and beyond.

The New York AM Setup (8:30-11:00 AM EST)

The NY session often continues the London move or creates a major reversal. Key: economic data releases (NFP, CPI, FOMC) create massive displacement candles that produce some of the best FVGs of the week. Trade it: If London established a clear direction, look for the first pullback into a 15M FVG during NY AM for a continuation trade. If London was ranging, wait for NY to establish direction with a BOS, then enter the first retest.

The Asian Session (7:00 PM - 2:00 AM EST)

For forex, the Asian session is typically low-volume and produces fake moves. Don't trade forex SMC setups during Asian hours โ€” save your energy for London. For crypto, Asia is actually active (Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia). Crypto SMC setups during Asian hours are valid.

Session Overlap = Maximum Opportunity

The London-New York overlap (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST) produces the highest volume and cleanest institutional moves. If you can only trade 4 hours a day, this is the window.

Quantum Algo Session Integration

Quantum Algo includes session markers directly on your chart, highlighting the Asian range, London open, and NY open. It tracks which session produced each signal, letting you filter for the highest-probability time windows. The indicator even marks the "Judas Swing" pattern at London open, alerting you when the conditions for the Asian sweep setup are present.
