什么 Happens During Consolidation
何时 price moves sideways in a range, it looks like nothing is happening. But behind the scenes, institutions are actively 构建ing positions. They need time and volume to accumulate or distribute large positions without moving the market. The range provides the cover they need — retail traders get bored, reduce their trading, and liquidity dries up, making it cheaper for institutions to fill orders.
威科夫 Ranges
Richard 威科夫 identified that ranges are either accumulation (institutions buying before a markup) or distribution (institutions selling before a markdown). The key question when you see a range: is smart money 构建ing longs or shorts? The answer determines which breakout to trade. Look at the higher-timeframe trend for 背景 — ranges after a downtrend are likely accumulation, after an uptrend likely distribution.
Range 流动性
During a range, liquidity 构建s on both sides. Stop losses above the range highs 创建 buy-side liquidity. Stop losses below the range lows 创建 sell-side liquidity. The longer the range lasts, the more liquidity 构建s. Institutions often sweep one side of the range (grabbing liquidity) before breaking out the other side. This fake breakout is one of the most reliable 信号s in all of trading.
如何交易 Range Breakouts with SMC
第一步: Identify the range boundaries. 3月k the equal highs and equal lows. 第二步: Wait for a sweep of one side — price briefly breaks above the high or below the low, 触发ing stops. 第三步: Watch for a strong reversal candle (displacement) back into the range. 步骤 4: Enter at the order block 创建d by the sweep, 目标ing the opposite side of the range and beyond.
何时 NOT to Trade Ranges
Don't trade inside the range trying to fade the highs and lows. The risk-to-reward is poor and you're likely to get caught in a breakout. Don't trade the first breakout without a sweep — genuine breakouts are often preceded by a fake breakout on the opposite side. Be patient. Ranges can last days or weeks. The payoff when they break is worth the wait.
